What is an Approved List?
An approved list is a list of pre-selected securities or investments that are deemed fit for purchase by an authority. In the case of the selection being made by a mutual fund or clients of a brokerage firm, the intent is to limit the account manager’s array of choices to the investments available on the ‘approved list’. This list is usually significantly larger than any one portfolio, so constructing a portfolio leaves the client many choices, that may change over time. Oftentimes, the approved list will show buy and sell target prices for the securities, which are frequently updated by research teams hired by the firm.
